The vote for Mayor Pro Tempore....... News is that the vote giving Dunwoody City Council Member Denis Shortal
Mayor Pro Tem position was invalid due to a lack of a signature on Doug Thompson's ballot. Surely the Council Members will quickly correct the problem next time they meet.
According to a contributor even though a supreme court justice was present observing the city attorney does not feel the city has to follow the exact letter of the law. PS Don't try to use this if you fine yourself in court. Apologize correct the issue and move on. No harm done.
The acting city attorney rules that the vote was fine and it stands. They city will not redo the vote. In other words: though councilman Doug Thompson, who happens to be an attorney himself, was unable to follow the clear directions and legal requirement to put his name on his vote, and despite it being GA code to identify each vote, the city is too embarrassed to deal with Thompson’s incompetence in his inability to vote properly, the mayor’s accepting of the improper vote, and the acting city attorney who gets paid at least $250 an hour to observe this mess, while a GA Supreme Court Justice was in the audience. Everything is legal until a judge rules it otherwise. This, from a city who despises transparency.
